The second commandment does sound a bit weird! You must not make for yourselves an idol…you must not worship or serve an idol?! Sounds stupid doesn’t it!?! Here’s the mad thing though – there’s more idols around now than ever before!!!

We make idols out of people! Footballers, film stars, boyfriends / girlfriends, pop stars…anyone that we love more than God is an idol! Idols can be things too – mobile phones, cars, money, TV, sport… anything that we think about more than God is an idol too!

You may not think that you worship these things, but how often are you sat in front of your telly, playing sport, on your mobile or just dreaming of having more cash?

If you can’t live without these things, they don’t serve you –you serve them! Is God number one in your life? Anything or anyone else in His place is idol worship!
